Welcome to the scheduling page for your SAFE MLO test

The SAFE Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 requires all licensed Mortgage Loan Originators to pass a test developed by NMLS. Each Loan Originator must take and pass the SAFE MLO Test in order to satisfy the SAFE test requirements of any single state jurisdiction.

SCHEDULING YOUR TEST

You have two steps to schedule your test:

Step 1: Pay for your test enrollment through NMLS. You will need to log into your account via this link: NMLS login page. All test enrollments must be paid for and opened through NMLS before scheduling. 

Step 2: Schedule your test fin a Prometric Test Center online by contacting Prometric at 1-877-671-6657.

RESCHEDULING/CANCEL POLICY

If you need to reschedule an appointment you must do so by 11:59pm Eastern Time, 2 calendar days prior to the scheduled your appointment using the Reschedule/Cancel option on this Web site or by contacting Prometric's automated voice response system at: 1-877-671-6657. You will need to provide Prometric with your confirmation number. Untimely cancellation of a test or failing to show for an appointment will reuslt in the test enrollment window being closed, and the candidate must request and pay for a new enrollment window prior to scheduling a new test appointment. Individual testing sites are unable to schedule, reschedule or cancel appointments. For more information please review Section 4.1 of the MLO Testing Handbook.

IMPORTANT TEST POLICIES AND RULES OF CONDUCT

All candidates will be required to read and agree to the NMLS Rules of Conduct for Test Takers prior to taking the test.  Candidate are also required to read and accept the Candidate Confidentiality & Test Security Agreement before paying and registering for the test. 

Identification Requirements

Please present one form of government-issued, valid identification, bearing both a photograph and a signature. No photocopies or faxes of identification or of name change documentation will be accepted.

Personal Items

No personal items, food or drink, including coffee and water, are permitted inside the testing room. Personal items include, but are not limited to: pens, cellular phones, watches, hats, non-medical electronic devices, outerwear, purses and wallets. Personal items must be kept in your assigned locker prior to the start of your test. 

Religious Apparel

Religious items such as head coverings, rosary beads, kabbalah bracelets, etc., are permitted in the testing room after being visually inspected by the Test Center Personnel. Similar to any other clothing or jewelry, any religious items allowed to be worn in the testing room must remain on at all times. Removed religious apparel must be stored in your locker.

Calculators

If you need a calculator for your testing session, please see the Test Center Personnel. You will be provided with a non-programmable, non-printing calculator.

Erasable Note Boards

Erasable note boards and pens will be provided to you upon admittance to the testing room. The note boards and pens must be returned at the end of your test.

Restroom Breaks: 

Restroom breaks are permitted; however, the time on your test will continue to count down. Per NMLS testing policies, you are not permitted to leave the building during an unscheduled break unless required to do so to use the bathroom facilities. If you need to access an item stored in the test center locker during an unscheduled break, such as food or medicine, you must notify the Test Center Personnel before you retrieve the item. You are not permitted to access any personal item as referenced above.

TESTING ACCOMMODATIONS

If you would like to request a testing accommodation for your test(s), please read the information below before scheduling your appointment. To request the testing accommodation(s) approval, please contact the NMLS Accommodations team at 1-877-416-6657 and select Option 2. After your request is processed, you will receive further information for scheduling your test appointment.

Please note that any request to bring personal belongings into the testing room needs to be approved prior to scheduling your test appointment. Personal belongings include but are not limited to: prescription and non-prescription medications, medical devices, etc.

ONLINE TEST DELIVERY AND IMPORTANT POLICIES

Calculators: A physical calculator is not permitted. A four-function calculator is available on screen as part of your test.

Scratch Pad: Scratch paper/erasable note boards are not permitted.  An online scratch pad is available on screen as part of your test. 

Restroom Breaks: Restroom breaks are permitted; however, the time on your test will continue to count down. Notify your proctor if you need to take an unscheduled break. Upon return from an unscheduled break, a security check will be performed. Per NMLS testing policies, you will not be able to access any study materials, make any phone calls, or access electronic media during an unscheduled break.
